So earlier today, my zj started wetting it self every time I would shut the engine off. (I have a feeling it has something to do with the trail ride on saturday) I first noticed it when I was filling up my power steering fluid do to a recent leak that I'm waiting on a part for, but when I went back to the parts store to get some stop leak stuff, I saw a small coolant patch in the spot I was parked in before. The store was closing, so they rushed me out after I got the stop leak.
Anyway, I got some food, let the engine cool off, then followed the directions on the stop leak. I didnt have any extra coolant, but I had some Royal purple coolant additive, so pored that in, and then topped it off with about half a bottle of water I had with me. I let the car run for about 10 minutes like the stop leak directed. Shut the engine off and there was still some coolant dripping, so I started it back up and waiting another 15 minutes. Shut it off, and it didnt leak.
I ran some errands with the car, went to about 3 different local places, and each time I shut it off, there was no leak. But I did notice the temperature was running around 210, were its usually around 190. And that the "low coolant" indicator was still flashing. I let it cool down again, checked the fluid, and it was still near full.
Now later that night, I was driving back home on the parkway, and the temperature would creep up to nearly in the red (well orange) then I would hear a faint hissing sound from under the hood, almost like boiling water overflowing a pot with the lid on it, for a split second, and the temperature would rapidly drop back to around 210, and it would start creeping up again. And this went on for the entire 15 minutes I was on the parkway. I stopped at my dads place to let it cool down for a while, before returning home.
Also, I was running the heater on full while on the parkway.
Now I know I have to flush the cooling system out, but I have a feeling I'm still going to be getting this running hot problem. Anyone have an idea what It could be, before I take it to a shop?
