We had a great time seeing everyone on Saturday. I appreciate all of the well wishes by all about the passing of my Dad. I am happy that he is in so much in a better place after several years of battling Alzheimer's. I appreciate all of my jeep friends offering to help me deal with the mechanical problems that I am having with my jeep. After my ride through Rausch Creek on Halloween in October I was left with a severe vibration. I had a u-joint fail, so I had both u-joints on both drive shafts replaced. The vibration continued. I had the rear drive shaft replaced, but the vibration continued. I had the wheels balanced, actually I also had the front wheels balanced a second time. I still have the vibration. My front tires are rubbing, I have not been able to adjust the turning "limiter", it is welded. I appreciate several of your referrals for wrangler mechanics. I appreciate and will be going to visit James and Jeannie to help me to analyze my difficulties by trailering the jeep to visit James and Jeannie next weekend. I appreciate that I may be able to hire Ed and his repair shop in Egg Harbor Twp to work on my Jeep. I am frustrated by my problems, but appreciate of all my jeep buddies helping me to resolve my problems. I suspect I will not have my wrangler repaired before the next trail ride, but I will be pushing ahead to resolve my problems so that I can get back on the trail. Thanks for everything, Chuck

Just chiming in here and probably way to late and not good information, but, I had a vibration and couldn't find it for a long time. Then I was told about rotating the drive shaft 180 deg at one end only, reconnect .... and that took care of it. .... just chiming in.... This was on my vette, which I changed every u-joint on that thing before I was told to do that... and on a vette there is a lot of joints...
Good Luck

Chuck, Good luck on getting your Jeep fixed! I hope they find the problem quickly. That bump stop shouldn't take more than a few minutes to fix. They'll just grind off the weld and make the adjustment. As far as the vibes, They're gonna have to look it over and just check everything. I know you had the tires balanced, but I've seen guys balance wheels that were bent or warped, they'll balance out on the machine but shake like crazy when mounted on the vehicle. Just ask to check to see if the wheels are out of round at all. Good luck buddy. See you soon.

Chuck brought his Jeep over to my humble garage for diagnoses. Wheel bearings; check… Ball-joints: check… Track-bar: a little loose. Tie-rod ends: check. Transmission mount: check I noticed a couple of small dents on the front drive shaft…I disconnected it and went for a spin. Vibration is still present. WTF over..I figured the mechanic probably pinch the DS tube in a vise. No big deal.. Brought the Jeep back to the garage and put the rear axle up on stands. I put a stationary probe next to the forward u-joint slip yoke. I could see about ¼” of run-out on the front yoke…What we have here is a bent transfer case tail shaft. I explained to Chuck some of the options to fixing this. Maybe someone has a TC kicking around. I also have a left over tail shaft from my 04; but it may not fit. Maybe he should consider an SYE kit???

You can never go wrong with an SYE Kit. Better to spend the money on that than a stock output and then find out you need it later. I've seen for the wranglers that they have a super short SYE which is supposed to be much better for the shorter wheel base. I just don't know if you can still use his shafts that he has now. I think he just replaced them with brand new??
Which transfer case does he have in there? I'm kinda confused on the bent transfer case tail shaft though. Do you think it's bent from bottoming out on a rock right on the drive shaft itself? If there was that much play in it, I would think it would be leaking fluid. Pictures would be wonderful to see whats going on here.

if u do a sye u need a cv driveshaft and they want u to measure from center of u joint from transfercase to center u joint rear but if u have a slip yoke to begine with (hence needing a sye kit) its hard to measure that i got mine from ebay n gave them the best measurement i could n it worked fine, actually if i remember right they sent me the kit i installed it then i measured then they sent me the cv drive shaft i got it all for around 400 n im happy with it

and if the driveshaft is bent out of the transfercase the rear bearings might b bad too from the transfercase X2 on this. Absolutely right. I know I haven't been around Jeeps very long, but in my years of auto repair, I haven't seen any tail shafts bending. Especially since they are encased in the housing. I have seen plenty of transfer cases cracked or broken though.

It was a brand new OEM drive shaft. There was a little leaking around the cone, but nothing to write home about... Chuck.... you must have come down hard on the drive shaft... Get her fixed and back on the trail.. If you can, save the old transfer case install a SS-SYE kit.

GOOD MORNING GOOD FRIENDS, Thanks to everyone for all there help with my jeep problems. Re-cap Rausch Creek, halloween I was left with substantial vibration. I had u-joints broke, replaced both u-joints rear drive shaft and front drive shaft. I discovered a dent on the rear drive shaft, so I installed a new drive shaft. Alex helped me install sway bars and a new track bar. Alex has lent me wheel spacers as I need to decide if I will be staying with the spacers (I am not prepared to install fender flares). James helped me determine that the transfer case tail shaft was bent. Yesterday I had a used transfer case installed, and FINALLY, NO VIBRATION. I was so excited that I took a five mile ride through the woods. I hope to get some help with grinding the weld on the bump stop, as I fear causing damage by grinding myself. Now regarding the ANIMAL tag, I did have a great time at Rausch, I look forward to going again, But Linda and Mickey have indicated I will be calming down some of my ANIMAL behavior. If anyone is planning to be out on the trail, please let me know. Chuck

Chuck With you having a manual trans I would recommend a hand throttle so you can clutch with one foot, brake with the other and throttle with your thumb. This would make the rocks much easier to navigate once you got used to the hand throttle! Here's a good write up on one this is some thing I could help you with I may even have the parts out in the yard! I have one on the LJ I use it on the rocks. www.stu-offroad.com/engine/throttle/jeep_throttle.htm Pics of mine
