OK here is my problem. I broke my front driver side axle shaft during the Jan run. I have finally got the time to work on it and I have run into a problem. I got everything apart but I can not get the inner shaft out of the housing. One does anyone know how this could happen and two how can I get the axle shaft out?

After you remove the wheelhub assembly the shaft should slide rite out. You have a locker maybe they used C-clip style for some reason in that case you have to remove the diff cover push the shaft in and remove the clip and out she comes ( loosen the fill plug before you drain diff sometimes they don't come out in that case you need to replace the cover just something you want to know before you put it all back together and then you can't fill it)

Man you have gotten yourself invited to a full blown Hawaiian luau. You are going to have to get creative it pulling the axle out. I suspect the axle is a little torque into the carrier. Have you tried a big pry bar? See if you can rig up a slide hammer or a length all-thread onto the remains of the shaft. (Poor mans puller) Welding the all-thread is an option but you would need to be real carful not to pass any current through the carrier bearings. With an OX locker, there is no way to poke the axle out from the opposite side.
Let us know how it comes out.... Good luck

Sounds like your gonna have to take the carrier apart if it's an OX Locker.

Good luck Thanks I never thought of that (POOR MANS PULLER) I will give it a try when I get the time. Right now I just took the outer shaft and cut off the ears(to stop it from hitting the inner shaft) so I could mount it back into the wheel hub to hold it together so I can drive it back and forth to work. It is working really good so far. Thanks for all the great info ;D

Good luck, let us know how you make out. I just went through a world of axle problems, I feel your pain. You might want to invest in a tub of Waterproof Marine Grease for when you put everything back together. I found that it makes a really big difference.

I am thinking that drilling and tapping some threads into the axle end would give you a place to anchor the all-tread. I don’t know how much room you will have to swing a ratcheting tap wrench. This might be safer then welding but more frustrating... Good luck…

This won't help your problem but while you have it apart a set of axle tube seals are good to keep the crap out.
