Well I finished all the tasks I set for Sat. with great success. I did find a few more issues like 2 worn wheelhub assemblies spent rear sway bar bushings and the front DS. When I took out the DS the caps fell off and the dry dirt came out with the needle bearings so I now have a 2 wheeler!

Tom, I just now finished replacing the three universals a centering ball in my front driveshaft.I'm thinking that the next time it needs to be done I'll shop it out. Vince

The job is a solid #4 if the Jeep gods are smiling down on you. Spinning a frame nut while dropping the skid, will send this simple task into the WTF zone. PB-Blaster and u-joint tool makes the job sort of fun. Rubi owners should watch out for injected plastic u-joint retention.
It is a good idea to periodically dress the skid bolts with anti-seize or weak thread-locker (blue).
I got my TV antenna installd this weekend. I cut my satalite bill by 60% and now have real HD. If it wasn't for the TiVo service through DirectTV, I would be totally free from paying anything. I am going to be experimenting with using one of my old PC to build a poor man's Tivo system and video server.
I am now free to move about the garage and replace my clutch.

Tom, The drive shaft removal wasn't all that hard-just a PITA because I did it without removing the skid plates and I used a vice to install the new universals. What I going to to now is wait for another warm day to put the drive shaft back in.I'm also going to look at cutting a hole in the transfer case skid to make it easier to get at the bolts. Almost forgot-I unbolted the drive shaft from the axle first-that way I was able to rotate it.Once I could get to a bolt I shifted the transfer into 4 high to lock the drive shaft in position.I did this for every bolt. I pulled the transmission to replace the clutch… I expected a ton of mud to fall out of the bell housing but was pleasantly surprised at how little debris was present. The throw out bearing was toast, and the release fingers were missing a few thousands of an inch. With seventy eight thousand on the clock, the rotor still looked like new. A fresh clutch and throw-out bearing took its place. I started this task late Sunday and will most likely be finished by tonight. In the process of pulling the shafts, I found a leaking front pinion seal. This is the second seal, so now it is time to replace the crush sleeve. It just never ends….
