Yeah the major reason Im doing his over the Ford 8.8 is the fact its a straight bolt in. I would have to get perches welded onto the 8.8 and while it is a cheaper axle getting that work done would raise the cost.
For ZJ's the 44a is definetely an upgrade to the 35 especially with how easy it should be to install. Nothing ever goes according to plan so Ill make sure to take lots of pictures. Should hopefully have it P.O.R.'ed and ready to install by the middle of next week.

I was just thinking about this and how cool would it look if you blast the center section to natural aluminum and paint the rest then clear it to keep the aluminum nice.

Thats a good idea ill take it into consideration.
I actually made a post on jeepforum about getting a 44a trussed. Go figure, as soon as I get home today from picking axle A up someone from Brick, NJ sends me a private message saying he has a 44a that he rebuilt 2k miles ago and already has 4.56 gears! And he only wants 300 for it!
Im thinking even if I cant work him down to a lower Ill buy it because to get axle A regeared to 4.56's alone would be more than 300. I could just keep axle A for parts or try to sell it.

I had a ZJ with the 44a in it and put it through some abuse with no issues (a couple of trips to RC, some sand pit action).
The biggest problem with it imo is the lack of aftermarket support when it comes to lockers.

In all this excitement about getting a new axle and trying to move to 33x12.5 tires I forgot a semi important detail....My wheels are not wide enough for 12.5 inch tires. They are only 7'' wide whereas 8'' is optimal and I dont want to push it.
So while I am still gonna do the axle swap Im thinking about looking for 33x10.5 or 32x11.5 tires instead. My wheels are kinda new and I definitely dont want to have to buy new ones.
Any input you guys have would be great!

Skinnier tires shouldn't make much difference. Just get a good MT. NO THORNBIRDS

I need to drive this thing to school so Thornbirds were never considered. I just didnt want to mount the 12.50 inch tires on 7 inch rims. Im leaning towards the 32x11.5 because i wouldnt have to trim to make them fit.

I only have 4 inches of lift so i would be squeezing them in. I could flex the 32's a little more so idk
