When I came back from the OK show I thought that. I was going to take it out BUT someone welded the entire exhaust. Before I cut it i would rather have new pipe. IT NEVER ENDS

A hot floorpan is common on xj's, especially noticable when you take the carpet out..Unless you're getting overheating issues and a motor tick, I wouldnt sweat it. As for the oil pressure dropping like a stone at idle, both my 89 and my 98 do it, even the new motor (less than 2000 miles) does it, and it is really a non-issue. Scary, I know, but truth is, these motors are hard to hurt. A lot of the higher temp at low speeds can be blamed on the aw4 trans, which is known to run hot, but is also known for being nearly indestructible with little more than a regular fluid change...many "built" tj's and yj's have used this trans and with good reason. My two cents?...keep a good maintenance schedule, keep a close eye on the fluids (color and viscosity), and try not to worry too much about what that guage says.....you could add a mechanical guage, as was mentioned, but in my opinion it's just adding one more thing that can end up leaking or breaking (and they do eventually) that will stop you cold no matter where you are, street or trail. I usually equate this with the Mustang guys who insist on wasting time and money on a Monster tach when the one that's already in their dash works well enough.....why? Rich

Oh, and a P.S to this: Older 4.0's have a tendency to gunk up their top ends with cooked oil, which clogs the return galleys and makes the oil return to the pan that much slower (you can probably hear it drizzling back to the pan after you shut it down).....Dont even think about an "engine flush in-a-can"...thats just kerosene and will only lead to scarred bearings. It's pricey, but synthetic can only help. You want to clear those galleys gradually, I might try using a detergent oil with a few frequent (think 1000-mile) changes to clear it out slow, then switch to a syn. like Rotella.

I did the herculiner in the inside. I put the interior back in today.
Changed the oil, plugs, cleaned the cap. I flushed the cooling system today and put in a new 180 degree thermostat . I pulled the fans out and cleaned out the fins real good.
Charged the AC. I had a can left over in the basement.(it works great).
I went to walmart and got the oil you guys recomended(10-40w). I change the oil filter and it seemed pretty bad. So I ran it for about an hour and no oil pressure drop. We'll see. i might head out for a few hours in the morning to try it out.

Expect a drop in mileage with the lower temp thermostat...the 4.0's like a hot top end (but the oil doesnt)
