As most of you know I thought my XJ had a rod knock well it don't. I figured let me make sure that's what it is. So I got up under there and found a crack in the flex plate (flywheel). I backed the trans out enough to get to the crank bolts and pulled it out. I found that it was cracked all the way around. There was 1/4" of metal keeping it together. OK! No big deal just go get a new one. I don't think so! So I tried 5 different auto parts stores, 2 tranny shops and 2 dealers no flex plate for the '94 XJ. They don't even list it. So I go to Trenton auto recycling he brings one in for me and it's not it. Bolt holes don't line up so he said give me a day or two I'll find one for you. Well it turns out The motor and trans are out of a '99. It took him 2 days to figure it out but he came through for me and only charged me 60 bucks. So if you can't find a part call the boy's at Trenton auto recycling they go the extra mile for you!

Wow, guess you lucked out! I know it was a pain to diagnose and an even bigger pain to shift the trans ( how about those top 2 bellhousing bolts, eh?), but it sure beats having to do a motor, and the 99 motor is a pretty good one to have, too.

No more noise! What a pain! I should have pulled the trans all the way out. The d**n flex plate bolts only line up one way because the CPS reads off a ring on the flex plate.
