87 Jeep Wrangler YJ, 4.2L B&M TH-350 auto trans Aluminum wheels w/ 32” tires 4” suspension lift Won’t go over 55 mph. Turns 2100 rpms in 1st, 3000 rpms in 2nd and 2100 rpms in drive. Engine acts like it’s governed. Acceleration is very slow. I have replaced the Weber carb with a new/rebuilt MC2100. (I didn’t drive her when the Weber was installed). Throttle & choke plates are opening fully. Choke is heat activated from the exhaust down pipe. Vacuum advance comes from port on passenger’s side bottom. 18” of vacuum @ idle. I can find no vacuum leaks. I have replaced fuel pump & fuel filter, ignition module, distributor pick up and coil. 7mm plugs wires look to be new & I have no visible spark @ night. I have disconnected the down pipe & driven w/o the cat & muffler hooked up. Still only goes 55 mph @ 2100 rpms. Trans fluid doesn’t smell burnt. Timing & spark gap are @ factory specs. I moved the crank & watched the dist. rotor. When the rotor started to move, I marked the AC compressor pulley. I rotated the crank in the other direction & stopped when the rotor started to move. Measurement was 1”. I don’t know if the Nutter by pass was done by the PO or not. I have no idea what ratio gears are in the rears. I have what I think is piston slap. I have a noise when the engine is cold that goes away when normal operating temp is reached. (factory temp gauge says 200 degrees, but a heat gun says 176 degrees).

I'm being told it could be geared too high or it could be the torque convertor.

Thanks, as soon as all this snow is gone, I'll get the info you suggested & post up. Only 1 tree in the yard so the test shouldn't be a problem. Forgot to mention, I have a 1974 Jeep J-10, 360 MC2100 2 bbl. I swapped the carbs & that made no difference. Carb has 1.21 venturis. How would I find the jet sizes?

Nutter by pass has not been done. Orange wire from ign module looks like it changes to a lime green w/ black tracer @ the plug. Rear is open. I jacked up the driver's side, marked the tire & u joint. Rotated the 32" tire 2 revolutions. The u joint turned 3 times, 3:08 gears? Didn't get to check engine speed with brakes applied. I noticed a popping sound coming out the exhaust pipe while I was checking rotation of the driveshaft.

She's running. ECU is bad. Found the correct wire colors & did the Nutter by-pass, then power timed the engine.
