OK Jeepeeple As you know I have a 2004 TJ with manual tranny After the squirrels ate the wires in my truck, I went to jump in the jeep to go to the parts store and the engine started but it won't go into gear. I checked the fluid in the clutch and it looked fine. What else should I check? The tranny seems to shift fine when the engine is off but as soon as you start the engine the tranny will not go into gear. I put it in 4 lo and pushed the stick hard toward first gear and crept it into the garage to warm it up..... any hints... suggestions.... Is it clutch time?

Have you tried to start it with it in gear and clutch pedal depressed? If it tries to roll while doing this, I say it's time for a new clutch.

Brad, Possibly a bad clutch master or slave cylinder.I had a problem with a s-15 jimmy and it was the clutch master cylinder. Vince

Pedal feels normal
Tranny fluid changed less than 5K ago
Slave cylinder is a definite possibility....
Where's a good place for a clutch job or is that easy enough to do?

It sounds like either the clutch master or slave cylinder is not doing its job. The master and slave cylinders are replaced as a set. Easy job… Check with Rock Auto www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.phpNow if you have been ignoring a loud squealing noise for the past couple of months; you may have a bad throw-out bearing that has eaten through the pressure plate fingers. If it is the clutch, (I doubt) it’s about an eight hour job with a golden opportunity to rebuild the drive shafts. BTDT…

after far too much work, jeep is back together and running well. Still needs an adjustment to the 4wd selector, armor plate installed, and a new tranny vent hose. At least i got snow on the tires
