I was cruising the LJ today and I started to smell clutch well I have an auto so I thought it was the POS in front of me. Well now it started to pull to the right then I realized I was smelling brakes so I took it home and pulled up to the garage and smoke started billowing out of the right front. I pulled the wheel off and the caliper was sticking. I called a real mechanic friend of mine he told me it could also be the line. So after about 2 hours I couldn't find nothing wrong. Put it all back together and its fine. Has anyone had a problem like this before.

Sounds simular to what happened to Kurt's Jeep last month.
Maybe the caliper was sticking closed ?

had the same thing.. look at my thread here in the tech section. (smokin axle or brake) It is the caliper for sure. 66.00 at napa and they have to order them and it takes two days. Took me 15 minutes to swap out and get back on the road.
The way to check to see if its the caliper is take the pads off and see if the piston moves easily? If it takes any force to open it, it's shot.
Yes, believe it or not mine had mud packed in it which caused the rubber to breakdown.

Everyone should take a garden hose and rinse off the brakes, u-joints, pinion-yokes, front and rear crank-shaft seals. Jersey-Devil mud is just plain evil....

Well I was out cruising the LJ today and guess what. The same caliper is stuck again! I guess it's time for a new one. It lasted almost a year after it stuck the first time.

Found out what was causing my brake problems. The rod from the brake pedal to the master cylinder was about 3/16in too long.I shortened it up and no more problems.
