Changed the oil and removed the front drive shaft. It vibrates like hell between 50 and 60 mph. I'll reinstall at RC.

blew out my rear axle bearing and messed up my axle, gears, etc... nice... Kirt, You have any idea what caused this?It just might be something we all should check.Maybe all that wax put too much weight on the drive train. Vince Hey Vince I didn't feel like I had the time to fix this and from reading on line and posting here I needed a press. I had Jeeperz pick it up to repair it. With 60,000 miles on it and a dana 44 I thought it should have lasted longer. If its anything but just bad luck I'll post it. Believe it or not I do not wax the axle...lol

Believe it or not I do not wax the axle...lolwell i met up with Tom and Pat up at OK today. On the way there something just didn't seem right. I pulled all the carpet out so i assumed thats why it seemed loud on the highway. After OK i drove home and as i pulled up to my house i noticed my rear window was pretty dirty...It was covered in gear oil. I climbed under my jeep and there was fluid everywhere. The rear Axel housing was VERY hot. I could have burnt my hand if i left it on it. I think its safer to say i have a major problem. I thought it was the rear(the noise) on the way home. Before i get out the tools anyone want to guess the problems??? Obviously I didn't make it to Rausch...

check the fluid level in the rear....i would say the only way the rear could get that hot is if it was running low. or out, of gear oil...

Bob, Its probably just the pinion seal. When mine went the whole back half of the underside was covered in gear lube.If the brakes are dry the culprit is the pinion seal or diff cover. Vince

Bob like Vinny said the seal i wiped out. On that note i picked up my rig yesterday and all i can say is the guy from DEJA who i bought the motor from and did the swap did a bang up job!!! It looks like the 4.0 came from the factory in it. So its just about time to do some wheeling!!!

thats what i was thinking. I thought the seal went. that would leak all the fluid and like rich said low level would give off a lot of heat. I will pull the cover next week...

I bashed the crap out of my Jeep yesterday does that count. I did a little visual inspection today and found a few things front + rear pinion seals are leaking, Rear brakes are almost to metal, UCA lock nuts came loose and hiems are twisted to one side, scraped up the front and rear diffs pretty good, bent the side of the tail pipe (don,t know how I did that) and bent the fender again. What a awesome trip! Loads of fun and no major carnage.

Changed the spark plugs this morning. As soon as the speed bleeders get delivered I'll replace the brake lines with the steel braided Russell ones that I have. Vince

Washed it and getting ready to take the hard top off... Rear shock bushings are shot, just contemplating new bushings or better shocks... Rust really took a toll this winter also, got to find my Rustolium in the garage...
