Did you ever find out what it was Kurt I think its my caliper?? the piston is real hard to move out of the way and it wants to close as soon as I move it a smige. I had to use a slege to get it on the rotor. My guess is spent caliper. Now I need to go buy calipers, pads, rotors and ebrake pads. I figued might as well do it all on both sides. I'm glad it at waited till I was home from my trip..last weekend.

Hey guys, my name is Phillip and I obviously just joined. I just got home from college and my friend and I decided we would try to do some work on our jeeps over the summer. He lives quite a ways away so Im just looking for some friendly people to learn from. I have a 1995 ZJ and hopefully within 2 weeks ill have finished a front to rear swap and replaced all the shocks to give me a couple inches of lift. If anyone has any tips, or would like to lend a tip or a hand Im in the Mount Holly area. Thanks! Welcome... You came to the right place.. Ask anything there might not be thousands on our forum yet but we all know are Jeep stuff. Kurt

Sounds like oil from somewhere got on the disc. Sure you don't have an axle seal leak ? It seems to be spreading amongst the club like wildfire. Check your diffs and all the other fluids for the heck of it. If he went off road i would have went there to,,,,but its also the rear brakes, I'm not sure yet It started to rain and I had to bag it for tonight. I put it all back together and the brake light was on. It may be my e brake. I did notice a little oil in the drum. I need to pull it after work Wednesday and take it all apart and clean it up and re adjust the ebrake and give it a drive and check it again. There was mud and crud packed around the ebrake pads. It was buried in a creek once but not pine mud.

Help!
On the way home today I smelled someones brakes burning. After I got done laughing at the guy in front of me I realized it was me.
I stopped and smoke was burning out of my rear wheel. I was 1 mile from my house so I went the rest of the way.
I quickly pulled the wheel/tire which was smokin hot. At that point I had smoke bellowing from my rear disk area. The axle tube was cool but the hub was hot. The whole disc brake was hot as well as the caliper. I pulled the caliper and nothing looks bad or nothing is leaking. But everything is hot...
Help what is it? The rear discs on a rubicon has the parking brake inside the disc drum and that is all working and cool to the touch.
I can't figure this one out.
