I cant help but feeling like the fact that people post videos of every aspect of a wheeling trip all over youtube and facebook are just fueling the fire for people who think that four wheeling is destroying the pine barrens! What else are the tree huggers to think when they watch endless videos of dozens of jeeps going through flooded roads and water crossings! We all know that driving on the roads that have been there well over 100 years isnt going to change the ecology of the pines, but lets keep what we do and dont do out there between us wheelers! It just gives them easy ammo to use against us! Posting pictures of a trailride is one thing, but save the video camera for the kids birthday party! Sorry if it sounds harsh, but its only adding to the problem, every blog or forum you read about the wheeling in the pines, always includes a link to a youtube video of someone wheeling! People have been wheeling for years out there, and it seems in the last 20 years, everyone who owns a video camera feels the need to post it all over the internet! Its not helping anything!

At least in this story, they acknowledged the clean up and used a responsible 4 wheeler to interview for the story. It was nowhere near as negative as the televised story. On that note, I was out on sunday with muddyyj, and a few other people and we did a little cleanup around some of the spots, we bagged up as much trash as 4 jeeps could hold and took it to the dumpster at the ranger station. Every little bit helps.... I wouldnt be a part of this club if protecting the pines wasnt part of our mission! Its sad that we have to do this in the first place, but at least we're not the ones adding to the problem!

Has the any of the local media ever aired any coverage or story about the pine barrens cleanup? Some positive stories might give the rest of the general public and the tree huggers a different view of people who wheel in the pines.... Unfortunately, the media tends to accentuate only the negative side of things! i think the environmentalists should blame the early settlers of the pines for cutting those roads through there in the first place! Besides, if the state of n.j. hadnt stepped in and turned the Wharton tract in to a state owned forest, it would be a huge cookie cutter Mc.Mansion farm like the rest of the open space in new jersey is quickly turning into! If you couldnt tell, this is a subject that gets me fired up!

Thats definitely 1/4 mile where they shot that footage, that whole area is a disaster, i wouldnt be upset if they put a fence around that whole area! Thats new jersey for ya, you give people an inch, and they take a foot! The pines are the last frontier for anywhere to wheel in this state, I dont understand people who feel like its ok to abuse it like that, and think its always going to be there no matter what! Its only a matter of time until scumbags like that get the pines closed off to the rest of us!

I agree Tom, it is pretty dead around here!!! Well. my jeep has been on jackstands in the garage for about a month now fixing the steering box issue. Man, what a project fixing a 14'' section of frame is!!! Im pretty close to getting it done, I have to rent a puller to get the pitman arm off the new steering box, with any luck I might have it back together tommorow. Cant wait to get out and wheel it again!!!!

Wow! Thats a TJ frame? Thats horrible, if it was a YJ, it would make sense! I just got my front frame section welded back in last weekend from Auto Rust Technicians, cant even tell it was ever fixed! They make all kind of frame repair sections for jeeps. i dont think they could fix that one though! Looks like they parked it in the in the bay for a month!

Wish I couldve made it yesterday, my jeep is still on jackstands in the garage, i received the frame repair section and the new steering box, just waiting for my buddy the welder to weld up the new frame section for me and get back on the trail. I was on the way down to the meeting yesterday in my daily driver (2000 Silverado) when the transmission started making an aweful metal to metal grinding noise, so I limped it back home, back to the tranny guy tonight for round 3!!!!! of tranny work to the same truck!!!! It never ends......

I ordered my frame repair section today, now to track down a dakota steering box! Matt check out this place they have everything, and they stand behind there used parts. Ive picked up parts for the D-Max from them and saved big bucks!! www.pamsauto.comThanks for the heads up John, just ordered one from them, came out to 115$ with shipping, with a lifetime warranty! Cant beat that, and no core charge, which wouldve sucked because i dont have one to take back!

Thanks John, i'll try giving them a call, see what they have. John (General Jeep) may be able to get me a new one from his work.... We'll see what the price difference is new vs. used.

Good time on the trail ride yesterday, a no-go on the night run. Just got back from a run with Dom and all them today, on the trailer , my steering box decided to part ways with the frame, luckily I was barely moving when it happened! Going to order the repair cap and get back in service asap. Word to the wise-anyone with an older jeep check your frame where the steering box bolts up! Mine really has no rust anywhere else-but theres not much left of that box mount area!
